Disaster in Haiti: Here’s How Mastercard is Helping
August 18, 2021 | BY Janet Rivera-Hernandez
On Saturday, August 14th a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the southern coast of Haiti leaving tens of thousands of people homeless, others injured and claimed more than 1,400 lives. Two tropical storms following the deadly earthquake have also hampered rescue work. All of this as the country still recovers from a global pandemic.
To help those who need emergency disaster relief assistance, Mastercard will donate $200,000 USD to Americares. Americares will provide medical aid for hospitals and medical centers in the form of intravenous fluids, antibiotics, and wound care supplies, among other urgently needed medical provisions. Americares has worked in Haiti since the 1980s, supporting health centers and local organizations with donated medicine and medical supplies in response to emergencies and ongoing needs.
In addition, together with our issuers, we are waiving any interchange related to U.S. donations through September 18, 2021 to the following charities:
Americares |
American Red Cross |
Doctors without Borders |
International Rescue Committee |
Save the Children |
Mercy Corps |
World Food Programme |
World Vision |
Mastercard employees are engaged and eager to support and contribute through our corporate donation matching program.
