Ed McLaughlin
President, Chief Technology Officer

     

Ed McLaughlin is the president and chief technology officer of Mastercard and a member of the company’s management committee. He oversees the company’s technology functions, including the payments network, enterprise platforms, technology infrastructure and operations, information security and global technology hubs.

Prior to his appointment in 2016, he served as chief information officer, directing the development of Mastercard products and services. In 2010, Ed was named chief emerging payments officer, leading the development and launch of the company’s digital strategy, partnerships and platforms, and served as chief franchise officer between 2008 and 2010, where he was responsible for the Mastercard global rules, licensing, brand standards and compliance programs. Ed joined Mastercard in 2005.

Prior to joining Mastercard, Ed was group vice president, products and strategy at Metavante (now FIS) which he joined in 2002 through acquisition of Paytrust, an online payments company of which he was co-founder and CEO. Prior to co-founding Paytrust, Ed was the executive vice president of product and marketing at LogicWorks, Inc., a start-up data modeling software company that had its IPO on the NASDAQ in 1996.

Ed is on the Board of Directors for both Xerox and Vocalink Ltd, UK, and a member of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Council on the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence. He was inducted into the CIO Hall of Fame in 2024 and awarded Forbes CIO Next Award in 2023. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business.
